Report: Chargers working on an extension for Corey Liuget

Someone one San Diego's defense might be getting a new contract after all.

The Chargers have prioritized defensive lineman Corey Liuget's contract situation, according to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport also noted that the Chargers view Liuget, who led the team in sacks and defensive snaps last year, as a cornerstone on that side of the ball.

The 2011 first-round pick is still only 25 years old. It speaks volumes about how he'd viewed that his team would extend him first over an equally-important veteran like Eric Weddle.

Liuget has been at OTAs while the Chargers' star safety has been holding out. That loyalty might be rewarded in a big way in the upcoming weeks.
