Raiders' seventh-round pick McDonald says he's underrated

Dexter McDonald just signed a contract that'll pay him like the seventh-round pick that he is.

But the Kansas Jayhawks' product thinks he'll prove to be a bargain in Silver and Black.

“I believe I am underrated,” McDonald told CSN Bay Area. “The fact that I went in the seventh round suggests that."

His two-year stat line at Kansas from 2013-14 is impressive enough to back that claim up. He notched 30 pass deflections, four interceptions, and scored twice for a team that struggled to find on-field success.

But McDonald should find some success for himself if he can keep growing as a cover man. The cornerback-hungry Raiders skipped on better prospects in the draft to make him their only selection at that position.

He'll only need to jump players like Keith McGill, James Dockery, and the returning Chimdi Chekwa. With a chip on his shoulder and the skills he has at his disposal, McDonald is confident.

"I think everything I have to offer, my size, my physicality, my speed, I feel like I’m underrated," he said. "That’s definitely a chip that I feel like I’ll carry on my shoulder throughout my NFL career.”
