Kubiak 'very confident' Broncos re-sign franchise WR Thomas
Gary Kubiak had to start his first Broncos minicamp without his most dynamic receiver.
The Broncos head coach is confident he won't have the same problem when the season begins, though.
Kubiak said he's "very confident" a deal will get done with Thomas before training camp begins in late July, according to ESPN. In fact, Kubiak is already planning on where the team's franchise receiver will be when he eventually returns.
"He's been studying our stuff, he's got all our cut-ups and that type of thing," Kubiak said. "Peyton and he are visiting consistently. It's just going to be important that when we do get to that point and it's time to go, OK, what's our plan for him as we move forward."
Kubiak said he's been encouraged by what he's heard about his workouts in Atlanta. But Thomas hasn't attended any team workouts since March, when the Broncos labeled him as their franchise player.
The head coach would much rather see his No. 1 receiver in person at Dove Valley. And he thinks that'll happen sooner rather than later.
"He's going to be here and he's going to be a great player for this football team," Kubiak said. "I'm just looking forward to that time."
