Utah Jazz guard Alec Burks has offseason knee, ankle surgery

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 5:18 p.m. ET

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Utah Jazz guard Alec Burks had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and ankle to clean out debris in the joints, and he's expected to be ready by the start of training camp.

The team announced the procedure Tuesday, saying he's likely to be healed by this fall.

Expectations have been high for the 6-foot-6, 214-pound scorer the last two seasons, but Burks has been plagued by injuries. He missed 50 games with a broken left fibula last season and 55 games during the previous season because of shoulder surgery.

Burks averaged 13.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists as the sixth man last season when healthy.

He was the No. 12 overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft out of Colorado.
