Thunder's Enes Kanter is getting death threats following failed coup in Turkey

Published Jul. 20, 2016 2:39 p.m. ET

Oklahoma City Thunder forward Enes Kanter has been getting death threats on Twitter since the failed coup in Turkey on Friday.

Kanter took screen shots of the threats -- written in Turkish -- and posted them to his account.

"Death threats continue to fall," the 24-year-old wrote. "Prayer does not stand still."

Kanter spoke out against the Turkish government back in March, after a terrorist bombing in Ankara killed 37 people and injured many others. He was critical of the country's decision to limit or obstruct broadcasts and social media access.

In 2015, Kanter said that he believed his political views were the reason he's been consistently left off of the Turkish national team.
