Stevens: 'Summer League will be a big thing for' James Young

James Young's rookie season wasn't disappointing, but the 19-year-old still failed to make much of an impact at the NBA level. He scored 105 points in 332 minutes (31 games) and shot just 25.8 percent from behind the three-point line.

Most of his time was spent in the D-League, where the University of Kentucky product dominated his competition, averaging 21.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.

Expectations were low in his first year, but the Celtics are beginning to think he can have an impact on the team this season. Here's what Brad Stevens recently said about Young, per the Boston Herald:

"Summer league will be a big thing for him. Certainly for Marcus, too, but I think for James to really gain a lot of momentum heading into next year, I think the 20 days that we’re together from practice to the last game are important.”

Young has the size and shooting stroke to be an extremely important puzzle piece for this Celtics team, both as an attractive trade chip and a potential star. If he can develop into an above average defender, Young's potential gets scary.

Stevens and the rest of the Celtics will monitor his Summer League performance very closely.
