Sixers unsure whether Joel Embiid will be healthy in time for 2016-17 season

Joel Embiid underwent another foot surgery this week that's expected to keep him sidelined for a second consecutive NBA season.

But what about a third?

There's no guarantee Embiid will be ready for the 2016-17 campaign, according to Keith Pompey of Philly.com.

"Talking to my sources, they want to see him return around October – not this October, but the next October, for that season. And he may not even return for the start of that season. He may miss a couple games. But that’s their goal."

This isn't as troubling as it may seem on the surface.

The Sixers are taking the long view where Embiid is concerned, and that should be viewed as nothing but a positive. Making sure the team's potential cornerstones are healthy for the future should be the primary concern, and the way the Sixers have handled Embiid to this point would lead you to believe that's exactly what's going on.
