Santa Cruz Warriors Acquire Amere May Jr. via Trade


Santa Cruz Warriors trade the returning player rights to Daniel Coursey for Amere May Jr., who was selected by the Canton Charge in the 3rd round of the 2016 NBA D-League Draft.
The Golden State Warriors affiliated Santa Cruz Warriors of the NBA D-League announced Sunday evening that they have traded away the returning player rights to 6-foot-10 forward Daniel Coursey for guard Amere May Jr..
May, a 6-foot-3 guard that went undrafted in 2015 coming out of Delaware State University, was selected by the Canton Charge with the 18th pick of the third round of the 2016 NBA D-League Draft, which took place Sunday morning.
Per Santa Cruz’s official press release, the trade is subject to the successful completion of team physicals.
Holding the 2nd overall pick of the 2016 NBA D-League Draft, Santa Cruz selected Jaleel Roberts out of UNC Asheville. The Warriors later picked up LaDontae Henton out of Providence at 10, Keith Steffeck out of William Penn at 66, and lastly, Rasean Simpson out of Morgan State at 84. The team had two more picks available, both of which they chose to forgo.
Coursey, 24, went undrafted in 2014 out of Mercer before playing 50 games with the Erie Bayhawks of the NBA D-League, averaging 9.2 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 25.1 minutes per contest.
Coursey began the following season playing 20 games for the Bayhawks before being traded to Santa Cruz, averaging 6.3 points and 3.7 rebounds in 24 games for Santa Cruz. He averaged 4.4 points and 2.8 rebounds on 54.2 percent shooting over the entire course of the 2015-16 D-League season.
May, 24, last played for Belfius Mons-Hainaut of the Belgium-Scooore League, averaging six points in five appearances. Prior to that, May played 13 games for Ferrocarril Oeste Capital Federal of Argentina, averaging 9.9 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists.
Prior to the Coursey-May news, Santa Cruz announced earlier Sunday evening they had traded returning player Xavier Henry for the 3rd overall pick in the 2016 D-League draft, Alex Hamilton.
Santa Cruz Warriors Opening Night at Kaiser Permanente Arena will be Nov. 12 at 7:00 p.m. (Pacific) against the Los Angeles D-Fenders.
