Russell Westbrook says European offenses are '10 times better' than in the NBA
Russell Westbrook has seen the best offenses the NBA has to offer and believes that the offenses European teams run are vastly better.
Fresh off the Oklahoma City Thunder's two-game stint in Europe, the All-Star guard was convinced that the offenses NBA teams implement aren't nearly as difficult to defend.
"I think one thing people don't realize is guarding teams in Europe," Russell Westbrook said, via the Norman Transcript. "Their offenses are 10 times better than NBA offense just because they move around a lot. A lot of movement and not as much talent so they have to do different things to be able to score the basketball."
The Thunder allowed 142 points in their preseason opener against Real Madrid and barley escaped with a 92-89 win over Barcelona. Thunder coach Billy Donovan believes his team was better prepared in the second game for the off-ball movement European teams use.
"Our guys getting more comfortable [with] the pace and the rhythm and how the offenses in Europe are running," Donovan said. "And that was probably a day to get acclimated and adjusted to that, to the speed and the cutting of the game."
Will the Thunder take some of the offensive philosophies they saw in Europe and bring them stateside? We will soon find out.
