Russell Westbrook reportedly plans to sign 3-year deal with Thunder

The Oklahoma City Thunder might have lost Kevin Durant this offseason, but it appears they're going to keep their other superstar. Russell Westbrook will fly to Oklahoma City on Thursday morning and plans to sign a renegotiated deal that will keep the All-Star point guard in OKC through the 2018-19 season, The Vertical reported Wednesday.
According to the report, the deal will be a three-year, $85 million maximum contract renegotiation agreement. The team likely will hold a news conference to announce the deal Thursday.
The Thunder failed to retain Durant earlier this summer, losing him to the Warriors. Many believed the team would also fail to retain Westbrook, who has spent his entire eight-year career with the franchise.
But it appears the 27-year-old point guard is staying put and will be the team's clear-cut No. 1 option for the foreseeable future.
According to the report, Westbrook’s salary will increase from $17.8 million to a maximum of $26.5 million in 2016-17 under the proposed renegotiation. Westbrook will make $28.5 million the following season and $30.6 million in the final year of the deal.

A five-time All-Star, Westbrook is one of the most explosive players in the NBA. He averaged 23.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, 10.4 assists and two steals last season for the Thunder, who lost in seven games to the Warriors in the Western Conference finals.
Westbrook finished last season with a league-leading 18 triple-doubles, tying Magic Johnson for the most in a season in the past 30 years.
