Report: Pelicans looking to bring back Omer Asik next season

For better or for worse, New Orleans Pelicans general manager Dell Demps says that the Pelicans "like our team." And that means New Orleans will reportedly look to bring back some of its own free agents and continue to grow the young core.
This according to a report from John Reid of The Times Picayune, who quotes Demps as adding, "If an opportunity presented itself to improve the team, we'll look at it. We think we are going in the right direction."
Reid reports that New Orleans will try to re-sign free agent center Omer Asik, however, as part of that "liking our team" thing. Asik struggled on offense at times last season, particularly in the playoffs against the Golden State Warriors. But he's one of the NBA's best rebounders, and his rim protection lets Anthony Davis patrol the rest of the floor, snuffing out emergencies and otherwise deterring teams from getting into their preferred offensive actions.
If the price is too high, New Orleans shouldn't go out of its way to re-sign Asik. But at the right price, he's a nice asset to have.
