Report: Neck injury left Nash numb briefly

Published Dec. 18, 2010 12:00 a.m. ET

Phoenix Suns point guard Steve Nash had a big injury scare after collapsing on court in the first quarter against the Mavericks, The Arizona Republic reported late Friday.

Nash feared the worst Friday night after he crumpled on the floor following a collision with Dallas center Tyson Chandler as he lent in for a loose ball.

"I had 10 seconds where I thought, 'Oh (expletive).' I couldn't feel anything and my head was stuck. My eyes were moving and my head wasn't. It was a very strange sensation. Obviously, I was really worried."

The veteran was struck with a "stinger," the team later said, describing the pain and tingling he experienced after tweaking his neck.

"The impact didn't hurt at all," Nash added. "It was really light. It was the angle I guess."

The injury was enough to force him out of the game after less than five minutes in what became a 106-91 defeat in Dallas.

But there will be no lasting damage, with the two-time NBA MVP expected to return Sunday for the Suns' trip to Oklahoma City.
