Report: Jimmy Butler to seek short-term deal this summer

Published Jun. 16, 2015 6:06 p.m. ET

Jimmy Butler, one way or another, is going to get paid a ton of money this summer.

Whether its by his current team, the Chicago Bulls, or by another suitor remains to be seen for the restricted free agent and 2015 All-Star. The Bulls can match any offer Butler receives, but some of those offers might be quite big after he had the best season of his young career.

In any event, it appears today that Butler isn't looking to sign any long sheets, years-wise. According to Yahoo Sports/FOX Sports 1 NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Jimmy is set to sign a shorter deal (and not the five-year, $90 million contract Chicago is expected to throw on the table July 1) in order to make even more money when the salary cap takes a jump in the near future.

A shrewd move, to be sure.
