Report: Heat changing up assistant coaches; Howard could shift roles

The Miami Heat are making more changes, reassigning two prominent assistant coaches, Yahoo Sports/FOX Sports 1 Insider Adrian Wojnarowski reports.

Citing league sources, the Yahoo report says Ron Rothstein and Bob McAdoo will no longer play "significant roles" on head coach Erik Spoelstra's staff and could even be off the bench. Those changes could lead to Juwan Howard being promoted from his role in player development, sources told Yahoo.

Rothstein and McAdoo are each expected to continue to have a job within the organization, the story says. Assistant coach David Fizdale will continue to work closely with Spoelstra, according to the report.

Rothstein, 71, was the first head coach for the Heat. McAdoo, a Hall of Famer as a player, has been an assistant with the organization for 18 years.

Miami failed to win the title this season, going to the NBA Finals before falling to the San Antonio Spurs. LeBron James subsequently left the team to join the Cleveland Cavaliers.
