Report: Elton Brand announces retirement

Former Atlanta Hawks big man Elton Brand announced his retirement on Monday, according to Al Coqueran of The Examiner.
Despite the announcement, Brand said he's not ruling out coming out of retirement if the right team or situation arises.
"I could get in shape if I got the call but this looks like the end of the run for me, right now it is family time,” Brand told The Examiner.
At this point in his career, Brand, 36, is likely nothing more than a wily veteran and good locker-room presence. He only played 36 games for the Hawks last season, and had his trivial role reduced to just four minutes in the playoffs.
The former No. 1 overall pick (1999) retires with career averages of 16.1 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.7 blocks. During the 2005-06 season, the prime of Brand's career, he averaged 24.7 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks, leading the Los Angeles Clippers to the second round of the 2006 playoffs.
Brand played for the Chicago Bulls, Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, Dallas Mavericks and Hawks.
