Reddick: 'Space Jam' is why Jordan is better than LeBron

It should come as no surprise that Josh Reddick — along with his Oakland Athletics teammates — is pulling for the Golden State Warriors to upend the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals.

The outfielder, while discussing the Warriors, also made a compelling argument why LeBron James will never be in the same league as Michael Jordan. And the reason Reddick supplied for why MJ always will reign supremeactually has nothing to do with their on-court prowess, at least as it relates to the NBA hardwood:

Simply stated, Reddick cites Jordan’s heroics in “Space Jam.”

“It’s a good story,” Reddick said about the Finals match-up between Steph Curry’s Warriors and LeBron’s Cavaliers, via SFGate.com’s John Shea. “Nothing would please Warrior fans and the Bay Area more than to see the Warriors take down LeBron (James). Dethrone him. As good a player as Lebron is, he’s not unbeatable. He’s not Michael (Jordan). When’s the last time LeBron saved the earth from an alien race?”

Hard to argue with that brand of logic. And given Reddick attracted a lot of attention for using George Michael’s “Careless Whisper” as his walk-up music, perhaps his use of a pop culture reference from a previous era as the basis for his argument makes perfect sense.

As pointed out by Big League Stew’s Chris Cwik, James has never beat a roving gang of basketball-playing aliens with a half-court dunk.

And MJ’s stat line was equally amazing, as he went 22-for-22 from the field for 44 points, dropping 24 points alone on dunks, per The Harvard Sports Analysis Collective.

So, yeah, if determining whether Jordan or James is the superior basketball player based solely on heroics with the fate of the world hanging in the balance, “His Airness” holds a distinct advantage.
