President Obama picks the Warriors to win the title

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

President Obama, a huge basketball fan, said that the Golden State Warriors, with Durant, will win the 2017 NBA Championship.

If there’s one thing that’s become increasingly clear during the messy election cycle, it’s that President Obama is awesome. The next Commander-in-Chief will not be anything like him. Regardless of whoever becomes the next leader of the free world, they, most likely, will not keep tabs on the NBA like no. 44.

President Obama, a Chicago Bulls fan, is a student of the game. He is pretty knowledgeable too, sharing his insights when asked. He was with Sway, a big Warriors fan, on his SiriusXM radio show and gave his prediction for the upcoming NBA season and the eventual title winners.

So there you have it. The POTUS has spoken. He told Sway “I’m going to go with the Warriors just because, you know, Durant. That addition, I think they got too much firepower although they just got spanked on their first game so it’ll take them a while to figure stuff out.”

It’s not a hot take from the President, but it’s, probably, the right one. Obama met with the Warriors last season when they visited the White House as a team in honor of winning the 2015 NBA Championship. He showed his knowledge and, of course, his humor.

The Warriors need size, but it never hurts to add more shooting. The President’s got a sweet-looking lefty stroke. I hear he’s going to be a free agent soon. Maybe Bob Myers can make a phone call.
