The Pistons have fired Maurice Cheeks, FOX Sports 1 NBA Insider Bill Reiter confirms.

Yahoo Sports first reported the move.

General manager Joe Dumars informed Cheeks of the decision on Sunday, according to the report. The Pistons, who have won four of their past six games, are a half-game behind the Bobcats for the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference.

Cheeks was hired in June to replace Lawrence Frank, but the team has struggled to be consistent. Detroit is 21-29 overall and four games below .500 at home.

Pistons point guard Brandon Jennings reacted to the news on Twitter, writing "I will like to thank Mo Cheeks for everything, thank you for helping me become a better person & player. I'm still learning"
