Paul Millsap Will Be Ready For The Season Opener

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Paul Millsap had a recent procedure on this right knee, but the team announces that he will be ready in time for the regular season opener.

There are plenty of familiar names within this Atlanta Hawks team, but there is no doubt that Paul Millsap is most valuable.

Earlier today, the team announced that Millsap will be ready for the season opener when the Hawks play host the Washington Wizards on Oct. 27. The team announced that he recently underwent a preventative procedure to reduce swelling in his right knee.

According to a press release from the team:

“After reviewing the options with Paul to treat his knee and provide him the best long-term care, we agreed, largely due to the time of year, that this was the best method and time to ensure his complete readiness for the start of the regular season.”

They then went onto announce that Millsap will go through phases of rest and recovery over the next few weeks before returning to full basketball activity.

The Hawks have ruled him out of the first two preseason games and will evaluate from there before declaring a return date.

Millsap led the Hawks in points (17.1), rebounds (9.0), steals (1.8), and blocks per game (1.7). He has a new frontcourt mate in Dwight Howard who was signed during free agency in July. The duo will need all the time they can get in training camp to form a chemistry with.

The Hawks will open their preseason schedule on Oct. 6 when they travel to Memphis to take on the Grizzlies.
