New York Knicks shooting guard Justin Holiday has been on a championship team before. He’s hopeful New York will achieve that same level of glory.

Justin Holiday is the only player on the New York Knicks who has won an NBA championship. That’s a surprising fact that you may or may not take to heart, but it’s a fact nonetheless.

Thus, if anyone on the team can recognize a championship contender, it’s likely the player who has been on a title team.

Holiday played his first full season with the NBA champion Golden State Warriors in 2014-15. His minutes were sporadic, but he was praised by his teammates for his work ethic and commitment to the game.

According to Marc Berman of The New York Post, Holiday has set a high standard for the Knicks.

“I think we have a great team, especially looking at us on paper,’’ Holiday said. “What’s going to be make us successful is putting the team before ourselves individually. As far as talent goes, I think we’re one of the more talented [teams in this] league, especially in the East. Hopefully we do some stuff [the Warriors] did.’’

Dream big or sleep dreamless.

Holiday is projected to be the backup shooting guard behind Courtney Lee in 2016-17. His value can be found in his size, length, athleticism, defensive capabilities, and range as a 3-point shooter.

There’s also value to be found in the experience he gained on a championship team.

Playing for the Warriors enabled Holiday to understand how a championship team truly operates. From the intensity of practices to the mental approach to big games, he’s learned from some of the best coaches and players in the NBA.

Though the Knicks are a team flush with veterans, Holiday’s work ethic and mental approach to the game should make him an invaluable asset.

Perhaps the Knicks are closer to contending than many believe.
