New York Knicks: Carmelo Anthony Remaining Patient With Process

The New York Knicks aren’t playing as well as one might have hoped they would. Carmelo Anthony is remaining patient during that process.

The New York Knicks entered the 2016-17 NBA regular season with high expectations and incomparable pressure. Having missed the playoffs in three consecutive seasons, New York will either make the playoffs or face the wrath of an unforgiving fanbase.

Through four games, the Knicks haven’t exactly provided New York with reasons to be optimistic about the future.

Carmelo Anthony is averaging a team-high 21.0 points per game on 43.9 percent shooting through four games. New York has lost three of its four outings, however, which has caused something of a panic.

According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, Anthony was able to put things into perspective during the Knicks’ loss to the Houston Rockets.

“I sat on the bench (in the 2nd half) & I realized that this is kind of a process & it’s all new to everybody. I kind of relaxed a little bit and told myself everything’s going to be alright.”

That actually makes sense when one breaks the situation down.

10 of the 15 players on the main roster, as well as three of the five starters, weren’t on the Knicks in 2015-16. That includes starting point guard Derrick Rose, starting shooting guard Courtney Lee, and starting center Joakim Noah.

It also includes the sixth man, Brandon Jennings, who’s averaging 19.8 minutes played per game.

With four of the first six players in the rotation having never played with the Knicks, it’s hard to fault them for struggling through four games. There have been flashes of brilliance, but New York has yet to put it all together.

To some degree, that should’ve been expected.

The Knicks’ defense has been atrocious, which one could chalk up to the lack of chemistry amongst new teammates. The offense has stalled in the fourth quarter, which can be attributed to the same issue.

In due time, chemistry should be built and solidified.

It’s then, and only then, that the results will display how good this team can be—for better or worse.
