NEW YORK (AP) Brooklyn Nets center Willie Reed could miss two months after having surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb.

Reed was hurt Wednesday against Boston in his first action of the preseason and had surgery Friday at the Hospital for Special Surgery. The Nets said his injury was a torn ulnar collateral ligament.

The team says he is expected to miss six to eight weeks.

Reed was signed to a one-year deal in July after being voted to the NBA Development League first team.
