Nets center Lopez suffers broken foot, reportedly out for season
The Brooklyn Nets season took another down turn Saturday.
Center Brook Lopez suffered a broken foot and is reportedly out for the season. The injury reportedly occured during the Nets' 121-120 overtime loss to the 76ers on Friday.
The Nets said they would issue another update next week after consultation with their doctors.
Lopez is averaging 20.7 points and six rebounds for the Nets, who are 11th in the Eastern Conference at 9-17. Lopez broke the same foot in 2011 that also required surgery.
The Nets made a splash in the offseason, acquiring Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce from the Celtics in the hopes of bringing a title to Brooklyn. But injuries and reported issues between new coach Jason Kidd and assistant Lawrence Frank have derailed their season.
The 7-footer from Stanford didn't miss a game during his first three seasons in the NBA, but hasn't made it through a full season since. He missed seven games last season when he sprained the same foot.
They have Andray Blatche and Reggie Evans as possible replacements on the bench, or could move Garnett to the center position, as the Boston Celtics did last season.
