NBA Rumors: OKC Thunder Likely To Trade Mitch McGary

NBA Rumors: After acquiring Joffrey Lauvergne from the Denver Nuggets, the Oklahoma City Thunder will likely trade Mitch McGary.
After making a deal with the Denver Nuggets Tuesday afternoon, it appears that another move could be on the horizon for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Now that the Thunder have added forward Joffrey Lauvergne to the mix, there’s a high likelihood that Mitch McGary, who also plays the same position, has played his final game in a Thunder jersey.
According to ESPN’s Royce Young, the Thunder will “likely be aggressive” in moving frontcourt players in order to address the small forward position.

The Thunder have sent two 2017 second round picks to the Nuggets for Joffrey Lauvergne.
Possible ripple-effect of the trade: There’s a pretty good chance Mitch McGary isn’t going to play another game with the Thunder.
The Thunder will likely be aggressive with trades and can now move frontcourt players (McGary, Ilyasova) for other position (SF) help.
Currently, the Thunder’s frontcourt (specifically at power forward) is quite cluttered. On the depth chart, OKC has Ersan Ilyasova, Nick Collison, Mitch McGary and Domantas Sabonis at power forward – not to mention Enes Kanter and Steven Adams at the center position.
As they say, something has to give.
At the small forward position, the Thunder only has Kyle Singler and Josh Huestis on the roster. So, simply put, the Thunder would greatly benefit from a potential trade to help even out their roster.
McGary, who is reportedly the most likely name to be on the move, was the 21st overall pick in 2014. He was drafted by the Thunder, but has only played in 52 games during his first couple seasons in the NBA.
For his career, he’s averaging 4.4 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. Though, in short stints, he’s shown some promise during his young career. He’s an active body that has shown glimpses of potential. Though, he just hasn’t been able to put it all together.
After losing Kevin Durant this summer, the Oklahoma City Thunder are still in the midst of trying to compile the right group of players to remain in contention out West. While still a playoff team, OKC’s roster simply isn’t anywhere near ready to compete with teams like the Los Angeles Clippers or San Antonio Spurs, much less the Golden State Warriors.
It’s no surprise that Sam Presti could be ready to being wheeling and dealing again.
