Michael Jordan congratulates the Warriors on 73 wins

The reigning MVP wasn't going to leave anything up to chance -- especially not when it came to surpassing Michael Jordan in NBA history.

Although the Golden State Warriors probably weren't going to lose to the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night, you never know what an NBA game can bring. Sometimes, weird things happen -- like Kobe Bryant scoring 60 points in his final game, as an example.

So Curry came out on fire, eclipsing 400 made 3-pointers on the season and leading the Warriors to their 73rd win. That, of course, breaks the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls' record for most wins in a regular season. And after the game, Jordan issued a statement congratulating Curry's squad on their accomplishments -- while leaving no doubt that the Warriors still have work to do in MJ's mind.

Via Jordan's manager, Estee Portnoy:

It's just the right amount of shade, in our opinion. "Excellent job, Warriors. Now get that ring, or else you're all going to get Crying Me'd." That's the message here, whether it's intentional or not. And let's be real: Jordan wouldn't issue a statement like that without measuring his words. He's not belittling Golden State's mark, mind you, and he seems to appreciate the Warriors as a basketball team (although he probably wouldn't be too happy about our take on why the Dubs would beat Jordan's Bulls).

But it's all about the rings for MJ. If the Warriors should happen to stumble on their way to a second title, we imagine Jordan would consider their season a failure on at least some level. It might not even be in the same league as the Bulls' 1996-97 season, when Chicago won 69 games and a second consecutive championship.

73 wins is great. If you don't get that ring, though, then what are you even doing?
