Magic's Stan Van Gundy to coach East All-Stars

Published Feb. 1, 2010 2:53 a.m. ET

Stan Van Gundy will coach the East in the All-Star game after the Orlando Magic edged Atlanta for the second-best record in the conference through January.

The Magic improved to 32-16 (.667) with their 91-86 victory at Detroit on Sunday. Atlanta was idle Sunday and finished January with a 30-16 mark (.652).

Cleveland has the best record in the East, but Cavaliers coach Mike Brown is ineligible after coaching in last year's All-Star game.

Van Gundy will coach his second All-Star game on Feb. 14 at Cowboys Stadium, having led the East to a 10-point win in 2005 when he was Miami's coach.

Denver's George Karl had already wrapped up the West spot, with the Lakers' Phil Jackson also ineligible.
