Kristaps Porzingis On Derrick Rose: He's Still Got It

When asked how much Derrick Rose has left in the tank, New York Knicks phenom Kristaps Porzingis had an intriguing answer: “He’s still got it.”
Of the changes made to the New York Knicks, few results are more intriguing than the potential for Derrick Rose and Kristaps Porzingis to run the pick and roll together. Between Rose’s athleticism and Porzingis’ versatility, that duo could anchor the Knicks’ offense.
Though there are concerns about how much Rose has left in his surgically repaired knees, Porzingis is quite confident in his new teammate.
Rose has undergone multiple knee surgeries and endured injuries to multiple areas of his legs. With that being said, he’s increased his availability in back-to-back seasons, appearing in 63 total games in 2014-15 and 66 regular season outings in 2015-16.
When asked about how much Rose has left in the tank, Porzingis definitively stated: “He’s still got it.”

For those who can’t see the video, Porzingis said the following:
“We played a couple of times. How explosive he is and everything, he’s still got it. He’s still Derrick Rose, you know? It will be exciting to play with him. He draws so much attention. When he’s driving, he’s so dangerous that I’m going to be wide open and that’s what I’m looking forward to. He’s going to be creating for me and other teammates.”
Knicks fans are hoping that proves true.
On paper, Rose’s ability to turn the corner and attack the basket makes him a lethal ball handler in the pick and roll. He’s a gifted passer when he isn’t jumping before distributing, which gives him explosive potential alongside Porzingis.
Porzingis’ coordination in diving to the basket and range as a shooter creates tremendous upside in the pick and roll, and pick and pop games.
When Rose has the ball in 2016-17, always make sure to keep an eye on Porzingis.
Porzingis also has the ability to play from the high post as a playmaker for Rose. He can face up and shoot or find Rose with passes that lead him to the basket on hard and pointed cuts.
Porzingis seems to believe Rose can still execute with the explosiveness that’s made him a three-time All-Star.
If this dynamic duo lives up to its potential, the Knicks could be genuine contenders in 2016-17.
