Kobe diagnosed with concussion

Published Feb. 28, 2012 12:00 a.m. ET

The Los Angeles Lakers announced Tuesday that guard Kobe Bryant is day-to-day after suffering a concussion and nasal fracture from Dwyane Wade's hard foul in Sunday's All-Star Game.

Bryant met with ear, nose and throat specialist Dr. John Rehm earlier Tuesday in Los Angeles and he confirmed the broken nose. Rehm recommended Bryant undergo an MRI and see a neurologist Dr. Vern Williams due to unspecified symptoms, and Williams diagnosed him with a concussion.

Bryant will be re-evaluated ahead of Wednesday night's game against Minnesota, but Lakers coach Mike Brown said he expected the 33-year-old to play.

"I know he's tough as nails and he plays through a lot of stuff," Brown said, according to the Orange County Register.

Heat star Wade said Tuesday he apologized to Bryant for the foul, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

"I sent him a message, with my apologies," Wade said following practice at Miami's AmericanAirlines Arena.

"He knows it's no ill intent on me to do that. Did I take a foul? Yes, I took a foul. So, talk about me for taking a foul. But I never wanted that kind of outcome."

Bryant scored 27 points in the game as his West team beat the East 152-149. He passed Michael Jordan for most points in All-Star history in the process, moving to 271 for his career.
