Karl-Anthony Towns: 'It would be an honor' to play for the Knicks

The Knicks won't know what pick in the draft they'll have for another few hours, but they do know they're going to be selecting inside the top five. They also know they have a shot at Karl-Anthony Towns, the Kentucky product who might become the first-overall pick by the the time the draft comes on June 25.

Now, Towns is saying all the right things about the possibility of becoming a Knick.

“It would be an honor, not only as a player, but as a Knicks fan, to be able to play for that organization,” Towns told the New York Post (h/t to CBS New York). “It’s gonna be, I guess a childhood dream — rooting for the Knicks all this time, and the next thing you know, you hear an organization call your name to go out there and give it your best shot. I think it would be very cool, and really very honored and blessed to be able to play for them.”

Towns being a Knicks fan is a big deal for other Knicks fans, surely.

“I’m gonna try and work very hard to give them the best chance to win, but it’s not as a savior, you can’t do it all by yourself,” Towns continued. “That’s why no one is bigger than nobody else. Everyone’s helping each other to get to one common goal, and that’s to win a championship and win games.”

Ultimately, it doesn't matter if Towns wants to be a Knick or not. If he's not going to force a trade, and forced trades aren't something we ever really see with draft prospects in basketball, then he has no say in where he's going on draft day. He'll play for whomever selects him. But I'm betting Knicks fans are hoping he's the one they get.
