Jefferson out against Raptors with inflamed ankle

Published Jan. 26, 2012 1:20 a.m. ET

Utah Jazz center Al Jefferson sat out Wednesday night's game against Toronto because of an inflamed right ankle he re-injured in the team's morning shootaround.

Jefferson, who leads the Jazz with 18.3 points and 9.4 rebounds per game, missed one game earlier this season with the same injury. Second-year pro Derrick Favors started against the Raptors in Jefferson's place.

Swingman Josh Howard was expected to play after missing four games with a strained left quad.

Utah has won 12 straight meetings with the Raptors.
