McGee has been working hard and rehabbing from a stress fracture that sidelined him last season and kept him unavailable during training camp and the preseason. Although he played limited time in his first outing this year against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The 7-foot, 270-pounder came off the bench and logged just under 11 minutes of playing time, finishing with eight points on 4-of-5 shooting and six rebounds in the process. And although the Mavericks (9-5) would eventually suffer a loss, coach Rick Carlisle was encouraged by what the team was able to get from the athletic big man in his first game action of the season.

“Well, we got 10 1/2 minutes out of him,” Carlisle said while assessing McGee’s debut. “You know, he was cleared (Saturday night) by the doctor, and we’re at a point where he’s really not going to make any further improvement unless he gets into some games. He’s feeling good, so we’ll work him in gradually. You know, he did some good things, but it helps to have another big guy.”
