Grizzlies draft Vazquez at No. 28

The Memphis Grizzlies have taken Maryland guard Greivis Vazquez with their third pick in the first round of the NBA Draft.

The Grizzlies chose Vazquez, a 6-foot-5, 211-pound guard, with the 28th pick of the first round. Vazquez is the reigning Atlantic Coast Conference player of the year.

Memphis took Kansas guard/forward Xavier Henry with the 12th pick of the first round. With the 25th pick, the Grizzlies grabbed South Florida guard Dominique Jones.

The young Grizzlies are trying to build off a season in which they went 40-42 and were in playoff contention before faltering down the stretch.
