Gasol Buries the Denver Nuggets with Last Second Buzzer Beater

Terrible coaching decision, and turnovers, haunt Nuggets as Gasol buried a buzzer beater to send the Denver Nuggets to their 4th loss.

These types of games are always exhilirating and enjoyable, until you end up on the losing end, especially when it happens multiple times to start the year, which is exactly what has happened to the Nuggets. Only up by 1 with less than 10 second left, the Nuggets got a steal, and a dunk by Mudiay put them ahead. After a Memphis turnover, all the Nuggets needed was to pass the ball in. They failed to do that and it eventually cost them the game.

The Nuggets have four losses now and out of the four, three were close games that the Nuggets failed to close at the end, including tonight. Much of those three games can be blamed upon turnovers, which is very true, and a big reason as to why the Nuggets have lost those games, but Michael Malone has to find a better closing lineup for the Nuggets and stick with it.

Tonight’s game featured a very solid closing lineup and they led a small comeback to put the Nuggets up one, but poor coaching by Michael Malone led to the loss. Malone decided during the last possesion to pull Jokic out of the game and put Nelson in. This meant Faried was switched onto Gasol and Gasol was able to shoot right over Faried to win the game for the Grizzlies. Poor coaching decisions similar to this have led to some of the Nuggets losses. Not all is to blame on Malone, but if it weren’t for his silly coaching during late game situations, the Nuggets could be exiting tonight with quite possibly a 6-1 record.

Many players played great for Denver tonight, but their performances weren’t enough to escape the tough loss in Memphis. The Nuggets will look to bounce back from the tough loss against the defending Western Conference Champion, Golden State Warriors at home.
