Ex-coach Derek Fisher on being fired by Knicks: 'Obviously, I'm disappointed'

Derek Fisher's reign as Knicks coach ended Monday morning after an unsuccessful year and a half. Fisher leaves New York with a 40-96 career record and no major moments to salvage. But he still showed some gratitude toward his mentor Phil Jackson, Knicks owner James Dolan and the Knicks organization in a prepared statement he tweeted out Tuesday:

The Knicks are just 23-31 on the season, but they've struggled even more of late. New York has lost nine of 10 after starting 22-22, falling mostly to opponents who rank higher in the standings over that rough stretch.

The team promoted Kurt Rambis, an assistant under Fisher, to interim coach. Rambis will coach his first game Tuesday evening against the Wizards.
