Dwyane Wade apologizes for shooting during Canadian national anthem
After defending his pre-game routine and claiming he meant no disrespect after taking shots during "O Canada," the Canadian national anthem, prior to Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals between the Toronto Raptors and Miami Heat, Dwyane Wade issued an official apology to the Raptors and Canadian fans.
"No disrespect at all from me," Wade said, via the Associated Press. "I apologize for Canada thinking I would disrespect them as a country. So today, I just adjusted how I normally get ready for a game and got in the line first.
"I have so much respect for the Toronto Raptors, obviously, and I have respect for the country of Canada. So I didn't mean any disrespect."
The NBA spoke with the Heat prior to the game to prevent the issue from reoccurring.
Wade was the first Heat player in line for "O Canada" prior to Game 4, which indeed was an adjustment to his pre-game routine and displayed how remorseful he felt after the way his behavior was perceived.
The Heat defeated the Raptors, 94-87 in overtime, in Game 4 to tie the series at 2-2. The Raptors host the Heat for Game 5 on Wednesday.
