Nowitzki finished the first half with 25 points on 9-of-12 shooting in a throwback performance and sat for most of the second half of a 122-111 win.
Nowitzki joins Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387), Karl Malone (36,928), Kobe Bryant (33,643), Michael Jordan (32,292) and Wilt Chamberlain (31,419) as the top scorers in NBA history. Nowitzki, Bryant and Malone are the only ones to reach 30,000 with one team. Nowitzki plans to play a 20th season, so he could pass Chamberlain next year.
"It's been a crazy ride with a lot of ups and a lot of downs but you guys stuck with me and we hung in there," Nowitzki told the crowd after the game. "Hopefully a lot more to come."
