Derrick Rose still undecided about attending Team USA minicamp

Published Aug. 2, 2015 9:47 a.m. ET

USA Basketball will conduct a minicamp in Las Vegas from August 11-13, where players will be run through a couple of days of non-contact drills, and presumably demonstrate their commitment to the program simply by showing up.

It's expected to be a well-attended event, especially when considering the fact that managing director Jerry Colangelo has said that attendance is mandatory for those wishing to be considered for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Some players are less than thrilled with having their summer recuperation time cut short, however, and Derrick Rose is the latest to consider skipping the minicamp altogether. ESPN's Nick Friedell has more:

"Chicago Bulls star guard Derrick Rose is still undecided about attending Team USA's minicamp, according to league sources.

"Rose has indicated in the past that he would like to play for Team USA in the Olympics, but sources told ESPNChicago.com that he is weighing the potential benefits of taking more time off before the start of Bulls training camp in late September."

Rose returned to Team USA last summer, and was part of the group that took home the gold at the FIBA World Championships in Spain.

He would appear to be on track to be one of those fortunate enough to be selected to the roster for next summer's Olympics, but it's unclear if Colangelo will let that happen if Rose doesn't arrive in Las Vegas on August 11.
