Dallas Mavericks Earn Fourth Win Over Chicago Bulls

The Dallas Mavericks welcomed the Chicago Bulls to the American Airlines Center, and played better from tipoff to the final buzzer, blowing out the Bulls.

The Dallas Mavericks began a four game home stand tonight versus a hot Chicago Bulls team. Chicago beat the reigning champion Cavaliers last night, and looked good doing it. Despite Dwayne Wade not making the trip to Dallas, many had this game written off as a Mavs loss. Good thing they didn’t tell the team that.

In the first quarter Dallas came out blazing, with Andrew Bogut and Harrison Barnes leading the way. Bogut was a beast on the glass early and even scored some, including a nice alley-oop dunk.

In the second quarter the Mavs continued their solid play, and despite allowing Chicago to pull within 6, ended up leading at halftime 45-57. Everyone’s favorite former Maverick Rajon Rondo ended the half with 2 points, 1 assist, 0 rebounds, and 2 turnovers.

In the second half Dallas kept up the heat, never letting the Bulls get momentum. Wesley Matthews caught fire, hitting a flurry of threes in the third quarter. After a poor shooting performance two nights ago against Charlotte, he returned to his (recently) normal ways.

Despite a valiant late effort from Jimmy Butler and his Bulls, Dallas emerged victorious with a final score of 107-82. Harrison Barnes had a good game despite some gritty defense from Butler, putting up 22 points and 5 rebounds. Wesley Matthews continued the hot streak he has been on the past couple weeks, providing 26 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and going 7/11 from deep. Deron Williams also had 9 points and a season high 15 assists in 31 minutes. Youngsters Dwight Powell and Dorian Finney-Smith had great nights as well.

During a season where there hasn’t been much to be happy about, beating a good team like Chicago as badly as we did is certainly a welcome idea. The Mavericks looked like a real force to be reckoned with, and things are how they should be in the Big D.

Next up for the Mavericks we invite the Charlotte Hornets to the American Airlines Center on Monday.
