Cavs' Williams out with injury

Published Oct. 27, 2010 7:17 p.m. ET

Cavaliers guard Mo Williams will miss the season opener against Boston as he continues to recover from a groin injury.

Williams was sidelined for most of training camp with the injury, which he suffered in a workout in the week ahead of the Cavs opening camp.

Ramon Sessions will start in place of Williams, who was recently excused for five days to attend his father-in-law's funeral in Mississippi. He rejoined the team on Tuesday.

Cavs coach Byron Scott said the team will err on the side of being overly cautious with Williams early in the season.

Cleveland needs Williams to pick up the scoring load following the departure of LeBron James. Williams averaged 15.8 points last season, second on the team to James.
