Cavs' Shumpert day-to-day with sprained left shoulder

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 5:32 p.m. ET

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio (AP) Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert sprained his left shoulder in Thursday's win over Chicago and could miss some upcoming games.

Shumpert did not practice Friday and coach Tyronn Lue said the team's best perimeter defender is day-to-day with the injury. Shumpert missed six weeks last season after dislocating the same shoulder. He did not have surgery.

Lue said Shumpert got hurt while trying to make a steal against the Bulls. Lue initially said Shumpert ''tweaked'' his shoulder, but the team later said he sprained it and his status for Sunday's game in Oklahoma City will be determined before the team departs Saturday.

Meanwhile, forward Channing Frye, acquired before Thursday's trading deadline from Orlando in a three-team deal, only watched practice as he continues to go through procedures with his new team. Frye is expected to practice Saturday. Lue said he would have no reservations about using Frye after just one practice.
