Cavs' Shumpert day-to-day with left shoulder injury

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 4:38 p.m. ET

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio (AP) Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert hurt his left shoulder in Thursday's win over Chicago.

Shumpert did not practice Friday and coach Tyronn Lue said the team's best perimeter defender is day-to-day with the injury. Shumpert missed six weeks last season after dislocating the same shoulder. He did not have surgery.

Lue said Shumpert got hurt while trying to make a steal against the Bulls. Lue initially called the injury a ''sprain'' but backtracked and said Shumpert ''tweaked'' his shoulder.

Forward Channing Frye, acquired before Thursday's trading deadline from Orlando in a three-team deal, only watched practice as he continues to go through procedures with his new team. Frye is expected to practice Saturday before the team leaves for Sunday's game in Oklahoma City. Lue said he would have no reservations about using Frye after just one practice.
