Bulls president: Players are 'ecstatic' to play for Fred Hoiberg

Tom Thibodeau is an excellent NBA coach. He got maximum effort out of his Bulls teams even when their best players were injured, and his acumen on the defensive end of the floor was evident in every one of his seasons in Chicago.

But he also played players perhaps heavier minutes than necessary, and after five years, it was time for a different voice to be heard.

Fred Hoiberg was hired based more on his relationship with members of the front office than for his experience at the professional level, because the former player didn't have any as a head coach. But Bulls management couldn't be any happier with the way things are going thus far.

"Fred has done a great job," Bulls president and chief operating officer Michael Reinsdorf told the Tribune on Wednesday in a rare interview on the team. "It's a process. I didn't expect we'd come out and win every game. Derrick (Rose) missed all of training camp (and) he's just rounding into shape — he still has vision problems.

"I can just tell you this: I talk to the players and they are ecstatic about the atmosphere and structure that is at the Advocate Center and on the court. Fred connects with the players. He connects with everyone he talks to because of his experiences as a player, executive and coach at the college level."
