Bismack Biyombo discusses meditation, says he is 'beyond basketball'

Toronto's Bismack Biyombo has had ups and downs in his career, but his application of meditation to basketball has helped transform the emerging big man.
Meditation practiced by basketball players is hardly uncommon. Legendary head coach and current Knicks president Phil Jackson has helped Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant adapt the methods as well. Biyombo says he discovered meditation in-flight on a cross-country trip when he spoke with a stranger on a plane.
According to The National Post, Biyombo has since used meditation as a motivation for his own career.
The report says Biyombo tries to meditate every day and adds that he finds heightened happiness, ease and fullness. Biyombo averages career-high totals in points (5.3 per game) and rebounds (7.9 per game) for Toronto this season.
I don’t want to become my job. I want to live my life. My life is not just basketball. I’m beyond basketball. Basketball is just a small part of what’s inside of me, this passion.
I’m always passionate about basketball. I love basketball. I grew up like that. It doesn’t have to necessarily be (all of) me, and take over my life, and the stress of my game.
