Ankle injury to sideline Kwame Brown 4-6 weeks

Published Sep. 25, 2010 3:09 p.m. ET

Charlotte Bobcats center Kwame Brown will miss four to six weeks after severely spraining his left ankle in a pickup game.

Brown was injured Thursday in a workout before the start of training camp. The team is calling it a third-degree sprain and Brown is wearing a protective boot. The injury could mean Brown won't be ready for the start of the regular season.

Charlotte signed the 6-foot-11 center to a one-year, $1.3 million deal last month. It reunites him with owner Michael Jordan, who was criticized for taking the underachieving Brown No. 1 overall in the 2001 draft.

Brown is expected to provide depth at center after the Bobcats traded Tyson Chandler to Dallas.
