Adelman reportedly will not return as Timberwolves coach

Published Apr. 17, 2014 7:41 a.m. ET

Rick Adelman will not return as Timberwolves head coach, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Adelman, who has guided the team the past three seasons, has compiled a 97-133 record while with the organization, failing to reach the playoffs each season. Adelman has won 1,042 games during his 23-year NBA coaching career, which has included stops in Portland, Golden State, Sacramento and Houston.

It's unclear whether Adelman is stepping down or being fired. Adelman™ might be resigning to spend more time with his wife, who has been dealing with seizures during his three years in Minnesota.

Michigan State'€™s Tom Izzo and Iowa State'€™s Fred Hoiberg have been mentioned as candidates to replace Adelman, according to the report.
