The ‘Since 1776’ campaign is the capstone of a larger repositioning effort that began in 2013, led by Chief Executive Scott O’Neil, which has included a new logo, uniform, and court redesign over the past seven months. As a critical part of the process, the Sixers looked at themselves, their city, and their fans to better understand to the power and foundation of their franchise.

“Our story is rooted in the history of our city, the legacy of our teams and the passion of our fans,” said O’Neil. “The ‘Since 1776’ campaign confidently walks us through the city streets to the roar of our crowd cheering the greats wearing our colors.”

The ‘Since 1776’ campaign includes a 90 and 30 second television spot, over 30 billboard permutations, crowd flag, digital and print ads, ticket art, and wall art. Campaign images prominently feature starter Nerlens Noel, popular 2015 NBA Draft pick Jahill Okafor, as well as Sixers legends Wilt Chamberlain, Darryl Dawkins, Allen Iverson, Moses Malone, and Charles Barkley. O’Neil and Chief Marketing and Innovation Officer Tim McDermott worked with international award-winning creative agency Mother to develop the campaign.

“In Philadelphia there is a special and unique relationship between the city, the team, and the fans. We are proud that this new campaign reflects the spirit Philadelphia was founded upon: revolution, patriotism, brotherhood, and invention. A ‘tough as nails’ passion and perseverance coupled with a willingness to create our own path,” said McDermott.
