76ers lose out on Lakers first-rounder, get just one first-round pick

The 76ers went into Tuesday night's NBA lottery with a chance to earn the first, sixth and 11th draft picks. Of course, that chance was infinitesimally small, but it still existed—enough for there to be an entire Twitter hashtag based on it.

Unfortunately for Philly, the odds played out Tuesday night, and #OneSixEleven never amounted.

First, Philadelphia lost out on its chance to swipe the Heat's top-10 protected first-rounder when Miami slotted into the 10th pick. But that wasn't it.

The Sixers also lost out on the Lakers first-rounder, which they acquired in this year's midseason trade involving Michael Carter-Williams. That pick was top-five protected, and since L.A. had the fourth-best odds at the first overall pick going into the night, it didn't seem like it would be sending its selection to Philadelphia, regardless. It turned out that was right. The Lakers will be picking second come June 25th's draft.

That means Philadelphia will solely own the third overall pick in the draft (along with all those second rounders). The tanking still worked. It just didn't work to the best-case scenario, as general manager Sam Hinkie would certainly claim.
