Wieters, Pie hurt running wet bases for Orioles

Published Jul. 10, 2010 6:01 a.m. ET

Baltimore Orioles catcher Matt Wieters and left fielder Felix Pie left Friday night's game against the Texas Rangers after getting hurt while running on the rain-slicked field.

Wieters fell down rounding second base in the fifth inning, when his foot appeared to slip awkwardly off the bag when he was running from first on Scott Moore's double. Wieters fell to the ground just past second base, then limped to third. He walked off the field and was replaced by a pinch-runner.

The Orioles said Wieters had a right hamstring strain and the injury would be evaluated Saturday, as would Pie's left quadriceps strain.

Pie came out after grounding out to end the sixth inning. He took only a couple of steps out of the batter's box after hitting the ball.

The game started 2 hours, 29 minutes late because of heavy rain, and a light drizzle was falling throughout the contest.
