White Sox To Finish Fifth Consecutive Season With Losing Road Record

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

White Sox will finish another season with a losing road record as they start last road series against Cleveland on Friday. White Sox haven’t finished season with winning road record since 2011.

The Chicago White Sox will conclude its final road games for the season with a three game series against the Cleveland Indians beginning Friday night. The Sox are currently 31-47 and will finish the season with a worst road record than 2015.

With another losing season looming for the Sox, the team’s poor road record is one of the main reasons this team isn’t contending. The Sox will also finish its fifth consecutive season with a losing record on the road.

During Robin Ventrua’s managerial tenure, the Sox have never had a winning record on the road. The closest the team got was in 2012 when they went 40-41 and missed the playoffs. The last time the Sox finished a season with a winning road record was 2011, Ozzie Guillen’s last season as the team’s manager.

That season, the Sox went 43-38 on the road, but a 36-45 record at home was one of the reason’s that team wasn’t competitive.

The Sox are currently riding a five game losing streak with each loss coming on the road. As the team starts its last road series of the season against the Indians, the Sox might not win another road game in 2016.

This is just another blow to another horrible season for the Sox. In order for the Sox to be competitive next season, they will have to display better results on the road. Although the Sox will finish more than 10 games under .500 on the road, this won’t be the worst road record for them during Ventura’s tenure.

During the 2013 season, the Sox had a pitiful 26-55 road record. The Sox overall record of 63-99 was the team’s worst since 1970. It’s been stated many times that Ventura needs to go, and hopefully this will be the last road series with him as Sox manager.

Ironically, the Sox could very well watch the Indians celebrate an AL Central division championship this weekend. The irony of this possible outcome would be seeing Indians manager Terry Francona guiding the Indians to the postseason, instead of the Sox. Francona wasn’t interviewed for the Sox vacancy at manager after the 2011 season. The Sox instead foolishly hired Ventura and five years later, they’ve made little progress towards contention.

The Sox can head home with pride by winning its final road series, but this is highly unlikely. Cleveland is on the verge of clinching its first division title since 2007, and the Sox don’t pose much of a threat. With the Sox entering its final week of play this season, it would be nice for the team to show some life. However, they aren’t expected to have much desire to win anymore this season.
