White Sox scratch Rienzo with blister

Published Sep. 20, 2013 8:31 p.m. ET

Chicago right-hander Andre Rienzo was scratched from his start against Detroit on Friday night because of a blister on his throwing hand.

Right-hander Dylan Axelrod started in Rienzo's place. Rienzo is 2-2 with a 5.04 ERA this season.

Detroit was dealing with its own injury. Shortstop Jose Iglesias was out of the lineup, one day after being hit in the left hand by a pitch. X-rays were negative, and Iglesias considered himself fortunate, but he was still in a lot of pain after Thursday's game.
